Die \u00e4gyptische Baumwolle stammt von der Art Gossypium Barbadense. Es handelt sich um dieselbe Pflanze, aus der auch Pima-Baumwolle gewonnen wird. Allerdings hat die in \u00c4gypten angebaute Baumwolle l\u00e4ngere Fasern als die in anderen L\u00e4ndern angebaute Baumwolle. Diese langen Fasern werden zu besonders feinen F\u00e4den gesponnen, und das daraus entstehende Gewebe ist von h\u00f6chster Qualit\u00e4t. Je h\u00f6her die Fadenzahl, desto dichter und \u00fcppiger f\u00fchlt sich der Stoff an und desto l\u00e4nger ist er haltbar. Die Fadenzahl ist die Anzahl der F\u00e4den pro Quadratzoll.
